AHOLD

AHOLD
Royal Ahold’s origins date from the 19th century, when it started as Albert Heijn’s grocery store in Oostzaan, Northern Holland. The family concern went public in 1948 and became the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands. After the transformation into Ahold in 1973, it developed into one of the world’s largest supermarket operators and retail companies. In 2003, Ahold had serious troubles because its American subsidiary, US Foodservice, caused an accounting scandal. Ahold is headquartered in Zaandam, Northern Holland.
